Jenny Lind Trunk Before and After

Another chance to bring back my favorite trunk style "The Jenny Lind". (circa 1860) Got this trunk from the same sale as the previous one, this one is a little smaller 26" x 18" x 16". I was wonderfully suprised when i started cleaning it up to find 5 brass bands in tact and 90 (count them) brass bosses with 84 of them still usuable. In addition there was a beautiful brass lock plate, with a workable lock. the lock plate was stamped j terry lock co. terryville ct. Research revealed this company was in business from 1858 -1860 and was then absorbed by the larger eagle lock. The plate is solid brass with a neat star design that slides and covers the lock opening. A key had broken off in the lock, managed to get it out and found a workable skeleton key.
The wood on the trunk was in great shape and as there was still alot of leather on the trunk i decided to recover it in leather, using period correct handles and straps .
The tray is original and since this is a gift for my daughter (UNC- Chapel Hill graduate) the interior and tray are covered in UNC herringbone linen.
