I am hoping someone can help me figure out what the purpose of this miniature knife was. It was given to me by my mom years ago. There are no identifying markings anywhere on it. The handle appears to be bakelite, and the multi-colored stripes were individually applied onto the knife handle. It is a solid little knife with a steel blade and brass hand guard. The details on this knife are very good, and it does not look like it was cheaply made. I am thinking that someone on here has seen one similiar to this. Thanks for looking, Thrifty Gypsy.

Possibly a ceremonial athame or a letter opener .Very nice !!!!!!

I would call it a trench art letter opener.

These multi colored handles were popular in trench art of both WW1 and WW2. I see it regularly with button hooks, but I have seen some letter openers as well.

I believe your letter opener is meant to resemble a small bayonet.

      Great item thanks for sharing,

Thanks scottvez for the "love" and for the information ! I have been looking at your trench art items, and I think they are awesome ! I did not know much about trench art, but I am definitely learning. Your comments have really helped alot, and I am excited to think that my small "knife " is a trench art item. Thanks again for looking and advising on this item. I am going to mark it solved ! Thrifty Gypsy

Thanks for the "love"Hedgewalker, I also appreciate the comments. I will have to do a little more digging, especially on ceremonial athames since I am not real familiar with them. Thanks again, Thrifty Gypsy

Thanks for the information Kevin, I agree that it does not really look like any of the trench art I have seen in the past. It is put together very well, and the blade appears to be made out of steel, not stainless. Thanks for stopping by! Thrifty
