I adore the kitschiest, tackiest Christmas Decorations, the sillier the better!
#1. One year we really went crazy as demonstrated in the first picture.
There's an Aluminum Tree, Blow Mold Santa & Candy Canes. The Sleigh filled with Poodles was something we found at an Estate Sale, the Reindeers were just tan, with a black mark for the eyes and noses and the sleigh was just read. SO... I painted them to look like Bambi or Max Fleischer's style 1930's cartoon look and added a ribbon on their necks with pom poms for noses, which I hot glued on. You may notice the trim on my dress and the sleigh look alike. Those felt cut outs came from a red net table cloth cover that must have been a 50's or 60's Kit. It was destroyed on one side so I pinned it to the dress and cut out the ones I glued on the side of the sleigh. I also glued the silver trim to outline the sleigh. It was some "Old Stock" I bought at a garage sale. My dress and my Doggie Stewart's outfit are new, but very retro. I made the hair flowers with glitter holly I found at JoAnne Fabrics.
The Background is made from CoroBuff papers, the same corogated paper they have been using in school displays and on stage for years. The 6ft Santa behind me, we found on Craigs list He had a plain face with black dots for eyes, so I painted him too, and added a poinsettia to his hat. The tall white tree is another Craig's List item. It was a dept store tree, it is so easy to assemble, 3 pieces. I covered the sofa in a red fuzzy material.
#2. The "Elffie" I found in an antique mall for ONLY Four Bucks and love it so much- it hurts. My hubby took the picture for me. I adore the personality in his face, so cute!
#3. The Snowmen blow molds are vintage, however, are still readily available new.
#4. This year's Christmas display is in front of our Cappellini "Clouds" We bought them Used at a thrift/ Antique show in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, called Happy Endings. Fabulous Italian design. Featuring the with Tree and our blow molds but added a "Tropical Pine Tree" that is real and stays indoors. I am curious how much it will grow, glad I have tall ceilings. But that is another post...
Merry Christmas Darlings!
LOL you can certainly be my kid! You are hereby claimed! ; D
