My mom had a lot of these. She bought them either in the late 60's or early 70's. She had Rudolf, an Angel, Candle, Santa Clause and a few others. Unfortunately, she tossed them when her and my Dad retired and scaled back on living space. They were made from recycled plastic pieces stuck together and shaped into Christmas objects. She can't remember if she bought them at Sears or KMart. Hope the info helps out!
Thank you and your Mom For the Information Macjunkie!
We had the same items as a kid in the early '70's as well, had all kind of different figures, ours all got thrown out in 1980 when we moved, I loved those decorations!!!
If I remember corretly, one side was very flat aned the other side bumpy.
Yes Thats Rite Beachcomb! The third picture is the backside flat. This is the Only One we Have Like It. Thank You!
Popcorn plastic. Yes, they were made into the early eighties and I believe someone has gotten hold of the old design molds aan are starting to make them again. If I remember my lore correctly they came about as a way to sell plastic when plastic flowers were out of season and they used recycled plastics nubs. Recycled from deformed plastic florals. Reground and shaped into pellets which were combined to make santa faces, rudolphs, carolers, snowmen, snowflakes. There are a ton of designs.
How do you tell if its A repro Or not Retro597?
We had those too in the 70's. I loved them. My mom still displays the Santa and Rudolph. They are so durable and can handle the weather being displayed outside! Great find!
The repros I have seen have a deeper color than yours. The original have the color of plastic flowers of the time and the new do not so much. The brown is browner now and not the brown of plastic flower stems of old. Note how the yellow of antlers looks like flower yellow and the pink is flowery pink. The plastic dyes are not the same any more.
Thank you Retro59! Mine probably is orginal!
I would say easily original as I just enlarged the pictures and can see the plastic. Should have realized my giant 21" screen would be big enough to see them. Later on the plastics were three sided and not a semi shred. By later on I mean mid seventies to eighties. Todays also are a near perfect trilobal piece. I will locate a newer one and do a show and tell and you will see the shape difference. I think my mom has some newer ones.
Thank You Retro597! you Have Been Very Helpful my friend!
Thank you bellin68!
