The closest thing that I have come up with is an old brush axe or corn cutter??? If anyone else has info on this please contact me and fill me in! It measures 18" The blade is 12" long by 5 1/2" at the widest point Has a thick wood pistol grip handle. Also has an "s" with stars on either side stamped on the blade

here in england we call it a bill hook, each county had a slight difference in design from the next, originally blacksmith made later not, they vary very much in quality ,handles were often professionally made by wood carvers often from ash but handles dont last as long as the blade and as they were used for hedge laying and coppicing when a new handled was needed the chap would have found a suitable piece from that and made it to fit himself.
