This lamp belonged to my Dad. The grand kids called him Bompa and knew he loved this lamp. He passed away 4 years ago. I don't even remember when or where he got it. I just know he always seemed to have it and I am 63 years old now. I always thought that he said someone made it for him but the kids have been asking me where it came from and there is no one left in my family to ask and I can't remember anything else. On the bottom it says Empire Silver Co. The initials on the bottom in the circle is a capital E, a large capital S and capital C with the o in the letter C. It says Sheffield under that inside the circle. If any one has a clue of any kind of what it is made of or where it would have come from or if it was hand made I would love to know.
I think your lamp was put together by someone. The base looks like a circa 1900 silverplate candle holder, that someone added a light socket and harp to. The shade appears to be a much later, 40's or 50's glass shade. A nice job of early recycling.
No argument there, base appears to be a candle holder by Empire.
The shade is actually for a ceiling light fixture.
