Here is an example of an unusual form in antique photography. This carte de visite (CDV) depicts an early ivory miniature of an identified man. The photograph was taken in Newburgh, NY on October 27, 1864. Along with the identification is a note about the source: "copied from an ivory miniature". Based on clothing, I would think that the ivory was from the early 19th century.

I collect photographs of early photographs and paintings, but this is the first ivory miniature that I have been able to obtain.

Ivory miniatures were very popular in the 18th and 19th century, but fell out of favor in the 1840s as photography became readily available.

Reproduction of this image in any form is not authorized.

Thanks again, pat. Copy Images are my favorite to collect. They are usually very reasonably priced.

Many folks don't even know what they are or how to identify them.

I often see other image dealers with puzzled looks when I purchase them, as they are usually found in the "cheap pile".
