This is an amazing bag constructed of gold and silver toned metal. I recently acquired it along with several other bags. Can anyone tell me about this particular style of bag or it's designer (Dorset-Rex)? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

      Hi

I have one that has no label. It is on Collector's Weekly here:
      http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/26240-a-lucite-hand-bag?in=user

That said, I had no idea that mine was one of the Dorset-Rex range until my mate here in Australia "ozmarty" recognized it for me.
But what I have learnt is that Dorset-Rex was an amalgamation of two companies '"Rex Fifth Ave" and "Dorset Fifth Ave".

Dorset Fifth Avenue: United States. Manufacturing compacts between 1930s to 1950s.

"Rex Fifth Avenue – Rex Products Corp., 302 Fifth Ave., New York, a maker of compacts in the 1950s. This company later joined another, Dorset, to become Dorset-Rex in 1951. Zell, Rex, Dorset and Columbia all had “Fifth Avenue” appended to their names and so they are often called “the Fifth Avenues”. They all made moderately priced compacts."

Not just compacts but lucite bags as well.

There's some comments about bags and their history here:
      http://www.standrewsandstgeorges.org.uk/documents/bags_for_life_catalogue.pdf

Hope that gets you started on the research.

It seemed there were a whole group of shops: Columbia of Fifth Avenue - along with Zell, Rex and Dorset, called the“Fifth Avenues”, all makers of moderately priced compacts.

Thank you sooo much for that wealth of information. This will surely get me on my way to further looking into the other "Fifth Avenue" shops as well. I love lucite bags..... but have not gotten around to collecting them yet! I will keep you posted on other finds by Rex and Dorset. Meanwhile I will read the info provided by the links you sent. Again, Thanks!
