I inherited these spoons from my mother. I've tried to find out about them on the internet but have now decided to ask for help 'cos I'm getting nowhere. I know that Canfield Bro & Co is an American silversmiths but beyond that I don't know any more. Can anyone shed some light on them?
Thanks
Simon
Canfield was, according to the web, a Baltimore company from before the Civil War until the 1880s. If you google them, you'll find more. It's always fun to see what else a company makes to get a perspective on your own pieces.
Thanks for that, I found canfield on the web but I'd really like to know if anyone knows anything more about this pattern of spoon. Any rough ideas about when they were made? I talked to some relatives who tell me that the spoons came from a big house in Northumberland (UK) and that the engraving (AB) on the terminal is somehow important to the family. I know I had relatives who emigrated to the states and Canada (My great uncle: Billy Lishman was a gunner in a lancaster bomber in ww2 and he died a few years ago in Vancouver Island. He was RCAF) I'd just really like to find out a bit more about these spoons - I don't care what they are worth, I'd never sell them, I've known them all my life. Does anyone knoe ANYTHING about them? - thanks
