When I got the red vase I was quite surprised as on the ILMATAR book -the one every NS collector uses- there'sonlymention of three colours: amber, green and clear. They said nothing about red... and what a red!

As for the fifth colour, light yellow amber, is one used a lot in the 1970s at Rihimäki. Then, Iwas also lucky when I got the green bottle in Finland: had neverseen a bottle with the colour fading into clear... the good thing I even got a good deal.

Thanks Scandi -and also to vetraio for his "Love"-. My Finnish friends got quite shocked at the sight of a red Raillo... I did love that! lol

Did you ever find mention of the red? Do you have the green? So very pretty!

Never found any mention to Raillo being made in red, but there is no doubt this is a real one :) I have got a green bottle, it appears in the other Raillo picture i uploaded... I love it with its fading colour!

Well, it could be, but Riihimäki had a name for manufacturing in extra colours out of catalogue... green Harlekiini (completely our of Nanny Still's intentions, she banned them when she saw them), yellow Neptuna, pink SV (when SV stands for sinninvihrea, a Finnish word meaning "bluish green") bright blue and green Tiimalasi or blue Apollo are to be found on te internet but there's not a mention of them in books... This could be the case of my red Raillo.

Then, the fact that Finnish people had never seen one before makes the "test piece" choice a stronger one... but it could also be a colour used for export (for instance, the bright blue and bright green Tiimalasi I have just seen in Britain). And I have my own theory about red colour pieces can also be seen as special, luxury editions.

In any case I guess there's no chance of knowing for sure.

Yes, depending on the model. The SULTAANNI series for instance, she designed it for pink and yellow... (although there is no reference in the book about clear and dark green, which I have got, haha). But then there is VIIRU stuff made in the same pink and apparently she forbid this series to be made in colours other than clear...

It's funny because I have got what I think it's a colour and shape test belonging to the Sultaanni series... I am not sure I'll have time to take this pictures today (going out for a drink with workmates after work) but I am sure you will love to take a look at them... in any case they will come out soon.
