This is the large frameable document that shows membership in the Ex Union Prisoner Association as a lifetime member.

Private Thomas Canady (113 Ill Infantry) spent about 9 months in various Confederate Prisons-- Andersonville, Millen (known as Camp Lawton), Savannah, Florence SC, and Salisbury NC. Eventually the soldier was paroled in Wilmington.

Post- War this veteran became a minister and spent considerable time giving talks and presentations about his prison time in order to raise money for the GAR.

Thanks for looking bellin-- I have three posts on this guys stuff and a few more to come.

The Andersonville story is a tragic and shocking story that is unknown by many of todays youth.

Very cool item Scott. I had no idea they actually gave out these documents to ex Union prisoners. Those banners at the top that read "We Can Forgive" But Cannot Forget" are great!

      Thanks for looking sign.

The Ex- Union Prisoners Association was a fraternal organization similar to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).
