These three Singer 221 Featherweight machines are referred to as either "Crinkle", "Wrinkle", or "Godzilla" finished Featherweights. Singer produced many of their Models with the "Crinkle" finish but only a very few in the "221" Featherweight. There are two from the from the 1st production run of "Crinkles" December 5th, 1939 & one from the 2nd run dated August 15, 1940 (chrome faceplate)
There is a specific feature not found on standard 221s i.e., * "3" Groves cut into the bed and the faceplate (on the 1sr run) of each machine as opposed to bed decals. The Grooved faceplate is unique to this variation alone.
Darla Trenner has done extensive research into this rare Model. Please refer to her findings at; http://home.roadrunner.com/~featherweight/crinkle.htm
note also: the "matching "Crinkle" finish on the Singer Pinking machine attached and the attachment case!
There are fewer than 100 reported "Crinkles" still known to exist...
