I would be extremely greatful if someone would give me some concrete information about the history of this item. It is now in a foreign West-European collection, so it's hard to find some archives here. I am also curious what this logo on the front means. And is Mr Frederick Ransome

Great traveling inkwell-- it appears to be in excellent condition and I believe these are from about 1900.
I do not know how to search English patents-- so I cannot help in determining the full name of the "Ransome" who invented the inkwell.

Hi, this thread looks a bit old, but I was going through my father's possessions and he claimed that his grandfather put together this inkpot around the turn of the century. The "Ransome's" would be "Ransome's and Jeffries", the firm for which he worked in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. As a labourer, I doubt he patented it or benefited from the patent. No idea how many were made - from what I can see on eBay, they were sold through Army & Navy supply shops. So no, Frederick Ransome was not involved. The logo on the front was probably either someone's monogram or the organization who sold that particular version - my version does not have anything on that side.
