I found this while medal detecting in central Florida a few months ago. I was suprised that it was in such good condition. The best info that I have been able to find online has been a online publication called E-sylum. A man they interviewed claims that the medal "Our Colored Heros" was given to his grandfather at the end of WWI in New Orleans,La by the VFW "who had it struck". They did this because the African American service men where not allowed to march in a parade with the white service man because of segrigation. A future artical states that less than 75 of these medals are known to exist. I have only been able to find photos 0f 4 and have heard of 7. The man in the artical said that they where probably worth 65$ but if it was a coin it would 10,000. It seems that 65 is very low figure for such a rare item but I just collect coins. I don't think I will ever part with it " maybe to a museum" because of its history and what it meant to the men who recieved it. If any of you have more info about this medal please post it. Thanks in advance.

This is probably one of the most historic of the cross over collectibles. Demand for WWI medals is high inspite of the current poor economic conditions and "Black Collectibles" are also in high demand. $65 would be a "steal" for this medal.
