Researching clock; New Haven 8 Day Russia Model Cabinet Clock with Alarm. It has 2 gilded ornaments, one on the cornice piece (not sure if that is the correct term) and one below the face. Stamped on clock face is Patd Nov 2XXX876, where XXX is covered by mounting screw. Keeping great time. I would like to know how the alarm function works.
Hello Dave,
The alarm is set by turning the disc in the center of the dial so that numeral of the hour you want the alarm to ring is located under the hour hand. It doesn't really matter where the hour hand is at currently. Say the hour hand is showing 1:00 and you want the Alarm to sound at 6:00, just rotate the center Alarm Dial clock-wise until 6:00 is lined up under the hour hand (currently at 1:00). The Alarm Dial will rotate with the hour hand. Then all you have to do is wind up the alarm spring. When the hour hand reaches 6:00, the alarm will sound until its spring has completely powered down. Nice clock by the way.
Hi Bruce - Thanks for the response re alarm feature. The disc that you speak of seems to be frozen in place (I've put a bit of pressure on it and it won't move; I'm not going to force it). I'm going to try to locate a schematic that includes the components of the alarm feature and how they relate to each other. Happy New Year, Dave
Dave,
You're very welcome. I believe that the disk will only turn clockwise. If it doesn't, then I agree you should not try to force it. If it hasn't been serviced recently, the movement may just need a good cleaning and overhaul. If you find a schematic, please share the location. I have a New Haven "Elbe" which has an alarm but it needs an overhaul and I have it stored away until I can get around to it. Happy New Year to you as well! Bruce
