That appears to be a head hunters axe. Far more decorative than the ones I've seen, but the shape is that of some head hunting tribes.
I really don't know what I'm talking about but I went to Fiji last year and it looks very native to me.
I will post a pic of an Ingot Tribe's weapon/field tool (from Phillipines) -- this was the weapon that they used when they fought. Is yours possibly a ceremonial type with all of the workmanship and inlaid copper/bronze?
