You might want to google a few pieces of ivory jewelry that have close up photos and compare them with yours.
This looks more like celluloid than ivory, ivory will give off a smell like its burnt hair and the needle will not be able to penetrate the item, if the needle has not penetrated the item it may be some sort of other bone.. I use to a necklace like this but sold it on ebay.. Hope this helps a little..
I added all new pictures
i ve heard somehow you can test ivory with your teeth ,dont ask me how you can google it
I heard of doing that with pearls before but never ivory
You can test for Bakalite several ways.
By rubbing your fingers over the piece until it is warm, then smell. It should smell like formaldehyde or carbolic acid.
Bakelite has a rather clunky sound when tapped.
Hope this helps.
Also a good test for Bakelite is to buy a litte tube Simichrome paste. A little bit on a cotton tige. Put a little of the pasta in an inconspicuous place and rub a few times. If the tige becomes yellow you have to do with Bakelite Works always!
