Tell me what this is. It is a glass ball with only one hole. Not a lightning rod insulator. About the size of a pool ball. Would it be possibly an early target for sport shooting, and later they invented the clay pigeon?

It certainly looks like a target ball to me. I have had a few over the years. the last one I had was a Bodagus, a little fancier, all embossed. The auctioneer who I bought it from was selling it as a Christmas ornament.

I'd have to agree with rocker-sd on this.

I don't believe that it is a target ball. Glass target balls always had raised protrusions and patterns on the outside. The reason was, so the pellets from the shotgun could catch on the raised patterns and brake the glass ball thus exposing the puff of stuffed feathers as it shatters. Could it be a fire grenade?
