Yes, you should have it appraised by a certified gemologist. Ask for a gemstone identification and appraisal for insurance. The cost to have it resized should be minimal compare to the fair market value of the ring. Best of luck.
thanks so much that was one of my fears i dont want to re size unless im sure the ring doesn't have a huge value.
Hi! Lovely ring. The stone looks more blue than green in the second & third pictures you posted, which, if so, would likelier be turquoise than jade. If it is indeed bright blue, than you might have a natural gem-grade turquoise cabochon, possibly Persian. A good appraiser would be able to identify this for you. The leaf pattern on the setting is a fairly popular motif, and it looks well-done. The gold setting is bold and robust, giving your ring a rich look -- there's definitely a nice amount of gold, which not only means quality, but is an indicator of the value of your ring based on the weight of the gold itself. This piece would be popular with collectors of fine vintage jewelry with a trendy "contemporary" look that makes a statement. There are plenty of fashionistas out there with a size 5 1/2 ring finger, but to me, this would look great worn as a splashy pinky ring - from the looks of your slender fingers it might even fit yours! If you do decide to get it sized, emphasize that you do not want to "lose any gold" or thin out the shank which still looks pretty thick and should not be a problem to size, if the thickness is evened out. Ask the jeweler what he charges for sizing, because it seems to me that you should not be charged extra for gold, since there appears to be plenty to work with.
