      It is a male mallard, decoy. They are made all over the place so if it is unsigned you probably won't have much luck tracing it down to who made it. I have seen lots of them carved and whittled then painted up in New England years ago. Lots of hunters would carve their own decoys during the winter months. Some of them bring a big price.

      Thank you very much. I don't believe it is signed so I may not ever know for sure. I believe it is quite old though because I remember it being in his basement years ago. Thanks for sharing.

      Could he have carved it himself? Or maybe a local carver?? My father-in-law carved quite a few decoys over the years. Some for use others as decorative items. Your's is beautiful!!

      Hi I am sorry to be so late in responding. Well he whiddle along side the courthouse with a bunch of other elderly men but that was the extent of his carving. Thank you
