    Clyde R. Watson was drafted from Tennessee in AUG 1944 and served overseas to earn this Bronze Star.

    I don't know his branch or unit, but would suspect that he was in the Infantry since EVERY Combat Infantryman was awarded the BSM as well.

      Thanks stepback-- yeah, I like the named ones, although a good many were issued without names.

      Believe it or not we (US Army) were still presenting some WW2 era purple hearts during the early part of OEF!

      Yes, those were purple hearts manufactured in anticipation on the invasion of the japanese mainland. When the bomb was dropped and Japan surrendered, the military had about a half million purple hearts in inventory. I learned about this when purple hearts in their WWII style cases were awarded to some of my fellow soldiers in Bosnia in the 90s. Here's an article on the purple hearts:
