Hard-to-find Brantford Ontario pottery picture frame believed to be made during the first part of the W. E. Welding period (1873-1894). This example is not signed but some earlier pieces were. One of the most famous examples was a pair in a green glaze made in Paris Ontario which sold at the Elizabeth Collard auction (Ritchies 2002) for $21,850.00. This example is in the $1000.00 range. I have a nice overview article on the Brantford potteries if anyone is interested in a copy (5 page magazine publication from 1977).
I thought it was wood when I first looked-- beautiful grain painting!
