Wilhelm Kralik Sohn, Eloenorenhain
Shape and pattern: after 1900
Unsigned
Clear glass with silver yellow oil spot, mold-blown and shaped. Matt iridescent.
According to Das Boehmische Glas, 1700-1950, Band IV, the unusual combination of oil spot with acid etched decoration is found only on pieces from this particular glass house. Different from earlier etched pieces from Eleanorenhain in which the application used templates or pressure, in this case, the acid resist is applied individually by hand painting.
This example has a strong silvery green iridescence over the gold "papillon" oil spot treatment. Gold enamel piping outlines the design and adds detail. This example is coincidentally in the same shape as a ribbed piece I posted earlier as possibly Rindskopf or Kralik. This comparison shows that the other piece (see last photo) has to now definitively be attributed to Kralik.
For a true appreciation of the detail and textures used, be sure to view the full-sized photos!
Kralik was surely capable of some very fine quality work. AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
