Helpmeouti…
(1 item)
Found this on a recent emptying of my father in laws loft.
Would be interesting to find out what it is, it is a Jug / Pitcher and as can be seen in the picture the colours are very bright and looks like it would have been made to commemorate something fairly important in the world
There are no obvious manufactures marks and names but I am sure this is not a home made item
I can only tell you what i see and can measure so here goes
Stands about 15" / 38cm base to handle top
Base Diameter 8.5" / 22cm
Top Opening in the neck 5" / 13cm
Represents 19 Countries with older style emblems but not country flags as follows. The one obvious exclusion to all the major european countries is germany and the only non european representation is the USA. Seeing as Russia, Prussia and Austria are represented it may point to WW1.
Top ring of countries
Belgium, Great Britain and France
Second ring of countries
Turkey, Portugal, Papal States, Brazil, Sweden, Prussia, Denmark and Switzerland.
Third and bottom ring
Holland, Sardinia, Spain, Greece, Bavaria, Austria, America and Russia.
That is as much as I can tell you from what I see, if you need other information I will try to tell you what you need.
Thank you
UPDATE Sat 7/1/12
Found the same jug on this website but it is not coloured it is just a white glaze.
http://thecanadasite.com/antiques/ceramics11_pitchers6_relief.html
So can anyone offer help as to why mine is coloured and the one on the website is white.
Solves the mystery of what it is and why Germany and Italy are missing.
Thank you
