These glasses have been in the family for ages. They came to my mom from her mom and we found them cleaning out the attic.
I am curious as to the maker and type of glass and also if they are made for a specific purpose.
the bottom looks to be amber in color and the top seems to have a gold edge. They have grapes and vines etched on the clear glass so I am assuming a wine glass. Also, they are stamped with FRANCE on the bottom.
Thanks for any comment or feedback you may have.
They have GRAVES etched on them.........................Yuck !
@Pop_abides - typo on the graves.. Thanks for pointing that out. Should be grapes..
This type of wine glass is called a Roemer. They are commonly used in Alsace and have been made for centuries. Anything marked with the country of origin would date after the McKinley Tarrif Act of 1891; these date much later and I'd suspect they do not date much before the 1950s (could even be later). Glasses like this are still being made today with plain or decorated bowls.
Just thought it was funny ! Thanks for my daily chuckle !
@Paul71 - Thanks for the info. My sister will feel much better knowing that I am using something in my daily life that is not worth a fortune! @Pop_abides - it was my pleasure. It gave me a laugh also!
My sis brought back some of these in the 80's, I think she got hers in Germany.
