Picked this up without much fanfare assuming that it was a print slapped on there to look good. Now that I look at it under the loupe, there are no dots like you normally see on prints. This looks handpainted. You can see some missing paint in the corner of her eye. I loaded the picture with too much flash so that you could get an idea of texture.
The back is what I call "layered"--yeah, probably not the technical term! :) It has both a clasp and pendant closure. It is beautiful, but I have no idea how to guesstimate the age when the closure or signature does not give it away. Anything jumping out to anybody?
Is the background ivory? (hot needle +smell of hair burning = ivory)
I can see why she is confusing as she almost has that 50 or 70s repro look, but she also looks higher end.
Thanks for the love BELLIN68! AmberRose, nope not ivory :)
Looks like the base of the portrait could be porcelain, this piece was made to be a brooch or pendant due to the hardware on the back. I love that the rear view is as attractive as the portrait, almost too ornate for '70s.
I think that it is handpainted porcelain, based on the look and feel of it. Guess I will never really know the true age of it, but that's o.k.--only place it is going is into the jewelry box anyway! Thanks for the love officialfuel, Samovar88 (comments too!) and tdvintagecompany!
I appreciate the love Beaux!
Thanks again BELLIN68!
