I fell in love with this little toy plane in an antique shop. It has some original silver paint on it, I think it may have originally had some sort of propellers attached to the nacelles. I don't know if it was from a kit, it doesn't seem to be due to the crude (I like to think of it as simple) design. The wood seems to be a soft wood, but not light enough to be balsa. If anyone has seen anything like it and has any info such as general age or kit, it would be greatly appreciated!
looking at the shape i recon its supposed to be a seaplane.
possibly an american Catalina seaplane.
Thanks Justin-sanford! I was guessing something like that also. It looks like it sat in an attic or a barn for quite some time, it was all spider webby looking, still looks that way around the nailed areas.
probably a treasured toy once.
This may have been an airplane that was assembled incorrectly. If the wings were rotated 180 degrees on the yaw axis and the pitch axis, the end result has the similar outlines of the Bell XFM Airacuda that wowed the nation in 1938. That airplane had pusher props with a mid wing location. This particular toy could be "fleshed out" if you ever want it done as it has very nice potential as a neat ART DECO aircraft sample .
Thanks, ohmyflyguy, I will definitely check that all out! I love my plane, it is hanging in my living room!
