I apologize for the poor image quality but this is the best I could do with what I have available. This is the size of a regular thimble but has no top. I believe it might be a tailor's thimble. Some of the dimples are all the way through the metal with very small holes. It has a small band at the base of smooth metal and a smaller, similar band at the top. The metal is light weight (tin?) and it has a very dull finish inside and out. Someone told me they thought it might be a civil war era but I have no idea - do you? Thank you!
I have one exactly the same that my great grandfather used to repair horse tack with. He was born around 1870 but used the thimble during the 1910's or 1920's so I assume they are probably fairly old.
fhrjr2, thank you for your comments!
