my father was given this set by his brother on the day of his birth in 1944. I'm looking to talk to someone about its value. Its an american flyer PA. rr set with orig. control and switches also anothe box of track and spare parts.
had one just like it many years ago. beautiful engine
So what do u think the vaule of it is? Are u intrested in buying it or know a collector that might be?
Try eBay to see if there is one on there. Value is based on rarity, condition, and original box. I've seen American Flyer locos on eBay before, so give it a try.
Definitely NOT given to your dad in 1944. There were NO model trains manufactured during the war, as all manufacturers had to support the war effort. (With one exception -- paper model trains!) This 312 Pennsy K-5 was probably manufactured in 1946 or 1947. It has SIT (smoke-in-tender), as you can see the rubber tube extending from the tender to the locomotive. The reverse lever protrudes from the boiler top. The paint looks fairly decent, but the rear tender truck needs to be re-affixed. Depending on full condition and runnability, the 312 might go for $110-$150. The #2 transformer looks to have its original cord, and MIGHT bring 10 bucks. The #720A switch has some serious rust. Without its mate and the controller, you might get $12-$15.
