I found this Skelly, Glass, One Quart, Oil Bottle years ago while I was deer hunting with my husband. It was barely sticking out of the ground on a steep cliff over looking a river in SW Missouri. I sat down on the cold, damp ground and dug and dug..... very gently with a stick. My husband kept prompting me to get back to hunting......he said "It was probably chipped or broken anyway". I kept digging, it was really stuck in the ground and even had dirt and debris inside it. I prevailed and this was my reward.......No chips, no cracks! On the backside it's painted and marked by 1/3 pint, 2/3 pint, and 1 pint and also by cc's and 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 pint. Also marked by 4,6,8,10,12,14,16 and 28 oz. Actually all the writing and labels are painted on, NO paper labels at all. On the backside it also has on it, two, painted paragraphs, stating, "Marketed by
SKELLY OIL COMPANY Kansas City, MO". We were walking, over a mile from home, in rugged terrain. After I got it dug up and it appeared
there were no chips or cracks (I wasn't sure, it was so dirty), my husband then said, (me being clumsy), he said "You will never make it home carrying that and your rifle without breaking it"......I love a challenge, I walked, ever so carefully, holding it close to my body, as if it
were a baby. When we were almost home, walking through a grassy meadow, he offered to carry it for me. I said "I think I have it made now." I still have the oil bottle, but Sam and I are no longer married!
Does anyone know how old this item is or a value? Just curious.......
