Pictured is a North Vietnamese Army pith helmet. This was the standard helmet that most NVA regular soldiers wore. It is rare to find these helmets with the original brass badge on the front, for when a soldier left north Vietnam to infiltrate to the south, they usually removed the badge.
This particular helmet was brought home by a U.S. Army infantryman who served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. The helmet was a battlefield pickup after a firefight with NVA regulars. The vet could not remember where exactly he picked it up.

With so many helmets of this time being faked and sold on eBay, it is nice to see one that is authentic. Hold on to it; real ones are getting more and more expensive! It would also be prudent to have the vet write you a short letter of provenance, if you are still in contact with him. This will add to the value both historically and financially.
