These mineral specimens came from the Platinum fields in the far Nth of Hokkaido Japan & we are not 100% certain what they are ; our field manuel on minerals from these Platinum fields is a book from the Sapporo Rock museum with lots of clear color plates which indicate this metallic rock has gold content mixed in it.
The rocks comefrom deep within stream beds in areas of very high content
of gold 24k and also platinum.
What was remarkable about where these rocks came from was the very small areas they could be found 20 meters by 80 meters & then no more of these kinds of rocks :
If there is a knowledgable Geoligist out in the collectors on these web pages we would love to hear from you.
Specimens are from 3 -4 fields the one on the far right is set in an Olivine type of mineral. most of these specimens are very slightly magnetic ; so I guess there is a little iron in them. Iridium Iridosamine , pieces are usually very small but we have seen some flakes almost 10mm in length that kind of match the metallic streaks in these rocks. That rock on the right weighs more than 2KG so very heavy for its size.
Checking Archives in libraries in hokkaido I found the Japanese Army was collecting Platinum by hand in these fields & using it to fund its War effort and the invasion of the Philipines and further West to India in WWII .
Treasure seeks may recall the large 1 meter Wide ball of solid Platinum found in the Japanese Army caves in the Philipines after WWII & the Mystery surrounding that Big Ball of solid platinum ........if came from the Platinum fields in Hokkaido.
So were winding what the platinum content of these specimens might be?.
The polished metallic streaks come from fine sands in the streams and what we think is that the Ice flowing over these rocks also polished that soft metal in the rocks whatever it is ???.
Awesome! This is the first time I've been able to find exact photos of what I myself have found here in Anchorage, Alaska. I'm not a geologist or anything just a hobby of mine and I'd be interested if you have any more information on these by chance
