You have a Seth Thomas Adamantine Black Mantel Clock called the "Sussex" from Circa 1900. Adamantine was a celluloid material that Seth Thomas used as a veneer, usually over a pine case, to simulate the look of European clocks made of Marble, Onyx, Slate, finished hardwoods. You can learn more at: http://clockhistory.com/sethThomas/products/adamantine/index.html. It usually cleans and polished up very nicely. Don't use anything abrasive on it because it will scratch easily.
      Enjoy.
