Recently acquired 1950's (??) No. 12 L Yankee Clipper Sled. Made in USA by S.L. Allen & Co. Inc. Philadelphia, PA. Manufacturers of the Flexible Flyer Sled and Planet Jr. Farm & Garden Tools.
Appears to be in really nice shape. No damage other than some paint flaking on the rails, and very little rust. Great graphics still legible and intact. If anyone knows a somewhat accurate date and possible value, please let me know.
I believe this is the first sled post on collector's weekly.
We had this exact sled as kids in Allentown, PA. I believe it is early 60's vs. 1950's, partly based on my sister being born in 1963 and me in 1964, but also because of the jet airliner on the sled. They were still pretty uncommon in the Fifties.
I live in Switzerland now, and one thing I'd like to get is an old Flexible Flyer for my new daughter. The sleds here don't have any steering mechanisms by tradition, which I remember thinking odd even when I was a six-year old and read about toboggans.
Thanks for the info rinkaan. I've updated the date on the title to reflect early 60's (I trust your judgement, as I haven't been able to find alot of information on this old sled). I do know that the Flexi Flyer's we're more desirable to kids in those days. Maybe the swiss don't think in terms of control or steering, and more in terms of downhill speed?!
I have a #14 Yankee Clipper Flexible Flyer Sled by Planet Jr. Farm and Garden Tools. Does anyone know the value of this sled, if any?
we have a flexable flyer # 11 from 60s yankee clipper s l allen &co
There are at least two (2) others posted both older in Outdoor sports, one is by stepback_antiques and the other is by electobacco... This one is in Excelent shape and does not appear to have been used much and it was well cared for . I like it neat thing if you have the room to show it. Big shame if you have to put it away somewhere..
Hey! I have the same sled - yankee clipper no.12- except the color is faded and its rusted. Did you ever get the value?
Best,
Li

Sorry I never responded... I'm thinking it's valued somewhere between $45-85.
We also have a Yankee Clipper #12 but it has rounded runners on the back instead of the pointed ones. It also doesn't have the "L" after the 12. Can you give me any info on it?
I found this web-site because I was looking for a Yankee Clipper sled. I had this sled when I was a kid. It might have been 1959-61. I'd love to find one too.
