It's funny how some of our favorite things turn out to not be the 'most expensive' sometimes. And you never know when a treasure will come your way! We were at a gun and dog auction one day and an older man that my husband knew said he had some things to 'show' us.. When he brought this out, it was in an old tattered cardboard case and it only had 4 strings that were rusted and sad. It was musty smelling as it had been in his basement just collecting dust and mildew. It would not have been long til the finish had been ruined. It was a jumbo body and I knew it would not fit me. Well, it was one of those, "Meant to be' times as I'd never even picked up a Jumbo. It fit me wonderfully and it hit a heart string and needed a good home. I love it, it play's wonderful and sounds great. This Old Ventura was Made in Japan and everyone that has ever played it says out great it is. It is a copy of the Gibson J-200 Sunburst (Jumbo) and I'd have to say that it the sound DOES compare equally. They don't make things like they used too!
Very nice :-) I also like your screen name as the Gibson I have listed was a Old hippie that never passed through that stage :-)
Thanks for sharing your find
Well, then I must take a look at your Gibson.. I do so love instruments! BTW, love your profile photo Manikin!
Thanks I see you saw my Dads Banjo :-) The Gibson I just put a note to you on
Thanks for liking my profile photo too :-)
Yes, the banjo is neat.. I'll have to get around, I have alot of things to share.. collected alot! Love it.. (except the dusting)... but it waits, I've yet to get up and see that 'the elves' have been up all night cleaning!
Oldhippie Well if you have any spare elves send them on over here . Mine are no good they make a mess in the night :-)
your guitar is very nice to look at and the colors are brilliant.
Is that actually a ceramic bridge on this guitar? Interesting, some of the components used by this Ventura (Japan made) guitar. They did use a 50s style Gibson body, with a 60s style saddle and 70s style, if these are original, tuning keys. I have heard some of these and they do sound very close to a Gibson J 200.
This old Ventura is all original.. We had the opportunity to have a near New Gibson J-200 in Blonde finish, and I would not have traded my Ventura for it..just way too much good old tone to it that the newer one did not have! Beside's I'm partial to 'old stuff'! Thanks Signaholic, I appreciate you imput! I had no idea this would get the attention it deserves! I am Happy!
And Thank clamityjane I was happy the colors turned out as good on the pictures as it is in 'real'!
Manikin,
If I get any 'good' elves to share, I'll be sure and send them your way!
Signaholic, I missed that question about the bridge! I guess I need to 'look closer'! and it does have the orig tuning keys! I sure love my old Ventura!
thanks for the love vanskyrock24!
