Mary Putnam Tibbets Easter photo sent to her sister who lived here in our house. She came from the famous family of Putnam's from Salem and Danvers Ma. She married the Clipper ship Captain 1853, traveled with him in the 1885-1892. Around the world and keep diaries here is a page from hers. What a great outfit and hat, this is after her husband died 1895 she still traveled to Paris and other country's.
Thanks scandinavian_pieces scandinavian_pieces Iam a photographer i have taken the photo of your great grandmother off here and tried to clean it up. is that ok for you? can i post it up? i made it a B/W FILE
I have learned a ton about 1860-1895, The ships stopped getting whale oil by 1870s, and going to China was not $ anymore. So this Captain and wife, would go to 1 country and bring stuff to a other country, she wrote about, this as soon as the ship was ready they would leave. They were the last Clipper ships working it was tough to make money then, she writes about not moving for days, no wind? I did read about having oil 1 time, maybe 2,000 lbs. She would go into towns and buy cloth and get mail from here, and write about the mail she got, we do not have any letters she sent home here in this years she was on the ship. I will put a new picture on here it looks like i was from her home after he died 1895 and his huge picture in in the room and a ship picture is on the wall .That's the Seawitch ship. we still have this picture in our family.
