I had this trunk passed down and have know idea anything about it. I tried to look it up online but had no luck with it. If you can help me in anyway that would be great. I was told it was a Steamer Trunk, Seamans Chest and would like to know the history of it.

A nice thing to inherit!
Based on style and hardware, I would date it to the early 20th century.

This is one of a large variety of wardrobe trunks made by C.A. Taylor Trunk Works of Chicago. The company was established in 1858, but this trunk with this late style label and hardware was made sometime from the late 1930's to about 1950. The company closed in 1951 and was making this type trunk at that time. The covering on the trunk is vulcanized fibre which is a hard pressed and heat treated fibre material which was glued onto plywood. Many of the trunks of the 1920's to 1950's were covered with the vulcanized fibre. Most of them also had brass plated hardware. Hope this helps.
