I bought this picture and others painted by the famous author Ginger Rogers, they are signed Ginger Briggs her married name. I have did research and all I have found was that she also was a painter, so I'm thinking that these maybe the original painting that were a personal collection, I would love to know if anyone can give me any information on this, it would be much appreciated. Most of the painting are on reverse glass.

You noted that Ginger was a famous author... actually Ginger Rogers was a VERY famous actress and dancer. She's probably best known as Fred Astaire's dance partner in many movies. She did write her autobiography, but is really not known as an author. Obviously she was very talented! I read that she was also an accomplished sculptor. Since she was married to Jack Briggs only from 1943-49, and remarried again in 1953, it's probable that your paintings were painted before 1953. Sorry I don't really have any pertinent information about your paintings, but you have an awesome find!

Did you ever find out if Ginger Rogers did paint that picture? I bought one in San Antonio at an auction signed by Ginger Briggs also. Mine is an Indian.

      Hello

Here is one of Ginger's paintings that she did during the Broadway run of Dolly

Bring your mouse on the signature. Then you will see how she makes her letters.

I have one of this series of paintings as well.
I am determined to find out more about it.
I'm a huge collector of Gingerbilia, and have dozens of autographs and samples of her handwriting, as well as other precious items that Miss Rogers owned, such as a pair of her dancing shoes, one of her dresses, and a piece of her lingerie!

Anyway, Her handwriting style varied over the years and changed over the course of her career. The signatures on these paintings certainly looks in keeping with her writing style (although I'm no handwriting expert). Especially the way she makes her 'G' and 'B'...very large with flourish. I also know she would sometimes go by her married names instead of her professional name of Rogers, when it was appropriate. For example, I've seen examples of her going by 'GB'..for either 'Ginger Briggs' or 'Ginger Bergerac'. So, the Ginger Briggs signature on these paintings would make sense.

Also, the western/ranch themes of these paintings makes sense, i.e.: Cowboys, horses, steers, cows, Native American Indians (I have a famous photograph of Ginger sketching and Indian chief in the late 1930s). There was certainly no shortage of Cowboys and ranch animals at her Rogue River Ranch in Eagle Point, OR...

Still, it would be very satisfying to have these paintings verified definitively. I have not tried to find an art expert/collectibles expert as yet, but I plan to.
