We love collecting hand thrown ugly face jugs/mugs pottery. I picked this stein up at a swap meet in Yuma AZ for a meer $8.00. It has a gold tag that reads: Hand Crafted 1980 Mahon Made Stoneware and the bottom is signed. I can't seem to locate any history on Mahon. Any and all replies will be appreciated.

I recently acquired one of the mugs it had a card in it that read (This stoneware original was created by the artisans of Mahon-Made stoneware, a group of highly skilled ceramists dedicated to creating the finest in quality imaginative stoneware for the discriminating collector.Today, ceramic ware is predominately mass produced from identical molds.lacking the individual touch. Each of our pieces is thrown on the potters wheel,and/or carefully sculpted&glazed by hand. Each work is initialized by the artist and reflects their unigue style humor &originality.
You are the owner of an original Mahon-Made stoneware creation. That will last for generations) If that may help you I will post a Picture of mine tonight.
Lol. Lovely. I have a few ugly mugs, sadly chipped or damaged & not the same as this one, a different maker, i don't know who but probably English, bought in the '80s, i love how they're all unique & the crude way they're made
It is Mahon Made Stoneware, Laguna Beach, California. Doug Mahon, Donald Mahon and other family siblings. The studio workshop also employed other potters for production. They also located to Santa Ana and Fountain Valley, California in various years. Active in the 1970s and 1980s.
