Please tell us what this item is. We just purchased it in estate auction.
We are not sure what it is , however it looks like an antique cast iron skillet shaped like a squash or pear.
We just picked this antique pot of some sort in estate sale, can you tell us what it is? | ||

Please help me determine what era this is from and it's use. Thanks very much!
I have one and think and use it as a Incense Burner. Just a thought
That makes sense! Thanks. Do you have any idea what era it is from?
I like the shape of the lid.
It is based on the Japanese flat hand fan called 'uchiwa'.
The gourd shaped cut outs add another dimension to the design.
The word 'uchiwa' means "the touch of a feather' and nicely describes the effect of the fan. I certainly wouldn't like to be hit over the head with this cast-iron lid, however ......... I prefer scruples suggestion for its use.
Thanks Vetraio50!
I went on ebay and found the exact item thanks to you! It was not in good of shape but it was like it! I would have never guessed it is a fan! Thanks so much!
Hi. I found the ebay item?
Scruples was right about the incense burner.
It is a 'koro'.... Taisho period (1911-1926)
I found one similar here (at the bottom of the page):

vetraio50, Thank you so much for sharing that link!
Incense Burner. I have one. Made in Japan. Some marked "Japan" on them. Usually the handle is broken on these. There is a few more styles (designs) out there.
