WE FOUND THIS AT AN ESTATE SALE. WE HAVENT SEEN ONE LIKE IT. IT HAS 3 CHERUBS ON THE BASE, STANDING ALONE. THE TOP OF THE BASE IS ORNATE IN BRASS. HOLDS DOUBLE BURNER OIL LAMP. THE GLASS DOME IS RED AND YELLOW ROSES. ITS A BEAUTIFUL PEICE. WE HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS OLD OR WHAT.
Hi Nana
This is a Victorian Lustre Kersosene Lamp. During the 19th century, lighting was at a premium so the wealthy used lamps such as these with the lustres catching the ambient light from the shade and dispersing it around the room in effect giving them 3 or 4 times the light with only one appliance. What a great piece with a classic Victorian rose design which was so popular during the 19th century
