I just purchased this beautiful vase from a local antique store. It looks a lot like Loetz to me, but there are no markings on the bottom. Any advice out there on if this is a Loetz, or Kralik perhaps? I really love the peacock-nouveau pattern and colors. This is my first piece of Art Nouveau glass and I'd love to learn more!

    Thanks for looking,
    Julie

I thought the same thing when I first got mine, sadly it is a contemporary piece sold in florist shops like FTD. Use it without worry, it is a pretty piece.

Actually I think I made a really great find! I found my EXACT vase here for $923.00:

Well sweet!!!! I have one as well, I was just going off what I was told about mine.

Vintagemad, does yours look exactly the same as mine, and the one on the link? What's the bottom of yours look like? Guess it's time to look into this a bit further and find a Loetz expert. :)

I bumped mine up to compare it with yours, I think they look the same. My pictures are bad but you get the idea. I hope you understand I was not trying to be rude in my comment. I think they are beautiful regardless of maker age or value.

I'm very happy to look at yours too! I'm stumped now, they do look very similar....

      The cheap repo is here:
      http://www.cottageflorist.com/cgi-bin/cottageflitem-dba.cgi/04T200

But mine looks much more like the art-deco antique link, if that one is real... Any other Loetz experts out there have an opinion?

These are new florist pieces. Look on eBay.......there are usually 2 or 3 at any one time listed.

This cottageflorist site shows the size of the vase.
      "Vase measures 6 5/8" (H) x 4 3/8" (W).
      ........ Arrangement approximately 13" (H) x 11" (W)."

That might give you an idea!
It seems these vases are being made by Seattle Glassworks. I think this is a project run by a young glassblower called Harrison Neel.
"Harrison Neel began blowing glass at age 15 in in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After graduating high school Harrison completed a three year factory glass education in the rural village Orrefors, Sweden. From 2005-2007 Harrison worked on Martha's Vineyard island blowing glass with other artists and designing his own glassware. In 2007 Harrison moved to Seattle, WA. Since settling in the Pacific Northwest, he has worked for several glass studios and artist in the region and continues to develop his own glass art."
He does classes here too: http://www.schack.org/
There's an upbeat video of him on the net with two co workers Hanna Jannson and Ulrika Barr:

do you think the antique link is a fake too then? Mine is taller than the florists one. mine is exactly 18cm tall, like the antique. The pattern on the florists site isn't even close to mine either.

If that antique link is a fake too, then I would bet mine is as well: http://www.artdeco-collection.com/vase-phanomen-loetz-19101920-p-154.html?osCsid=9td8e22huu9huqkcbt67aq69j1

These are FTD and/or florist supplied and well documented in Loetz discussion circles...they have been around for years in a few different sizes.

Thank you all so much! What a wealth of info you all have, I very much appreciate it as a newbee. :)

Here's another seller with 6 selling for $18.50 each: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Iridescent-Opulence-Vase-/7365426011

I followed up with the antique website trying to sell it for $923.00 and gave them the reproduction links so they can be informed that they are trying to sell a knock-off as the real deal. Hopefully they will take down that listing.

Thank you everyone for helping me solve the mystery!

GREAT discussion on this item and valuable lessons on online researching.

Just because an item is offered online at a high price and IDd as authentic doesn't make it so.

Thanks to all for the education.

And thanks to JLeidel for allowing your item to educate.

SO GLAD YOU HAVE COME TO THE SAD TRUTH......THESE VASES ARE NEW. THAT ART DECO SITE SHOULD KNOW BETTER. I HAVE LEARNED THE HARD WAY THAT JUST BECAUSE A DEALER HAS A FLASHY WEB SITE DOESN'T MEAN HE/SHE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE SELLING. THERE IS A VERY FAMOUS NOUVEAU/ DECO WEB SITE OF A DEALER IN FLORIDA (NO NAMES) WHO HAS SEVERAL KRALIK PIECES MARKED AS LOETZ WITH HIGH-END LOETZ PRICES.

I see it all the time LoetzBuddies. High end sites and High end Auctions don't always have high end knowledge!

That's what makes this site so valuable. It's great to have a community of collectors to bounce ideas off of and come up with the truth. I really appreciate it.

Some post here and then don't want to hear the truth-- it is refreshing to find someone out for the truth about an object!

Art Deco Collection got back to me and they were very happy I emailed them. They will be taking down that post very soon! Looks like we aren't the only ones looking for the truth, which is also refreshing. :)

I too have seen these modern vases made to look like early bohemian glass. Here's my question: Are they mass produced, and if so how? The pictured vase is clearly a well done piece even if it's just a copy. Assembly line glass blowers/decorators? Can anyone offer any info? Thanks
