I picked this up a few years ago in PA. I collect art pottery, but I liked shape and color and glaze. So, I bought it. It has a matte green glaze. It is 7 in. high x 5.5 in. wide (handle to handle). The seller said it is McCoy, but only sells a few collectibles that he picks up here and there. He sells mainly rugs, table runners, blankets and the like. I cannot verify which pottery made this, though. I saw this very same piece at the Grove Park Inn in one of their many display cases scattered around there Lobby and many hallways. Can anyone help me to identify/date this piece? Thanks!
It is important to show pics of the bottom to help ID a piece of pottery; it tells a lot of information. My guess from what I am seeing is that your piece was made by Pfaltzgraff. It would be an early piece, when they were making art pottery. Hope this is a useful starting point in your research. Mac
Thank you, Mac. The bottom has no marking whatsoever, but has same glazing, except for the outer ring. ~Nick
Did a little researching and did find exact same shape offered at auction as: Pfaltzgraff Art Deco 2 Toned Pink & Green Ovoid Crock Vase 1930s with a described as follows: Circa early 1930's Art Deco Vase Ovoid form with vertical collar and applied Rectangular handles Mauve or Rose to Green , tutone glaze Pfaltzgraff Art Deco 2 Toned Pink & Green Ovoid Crock Vase 1930s Stands 7 inches high No chips or cracks Marked on underside with encircled marking, The Pfaltzgraff Pottery Co. York, Pa. Do you know where I can find history and pattern names?
Sorry, I spoke without looking. I made a mistake. I just looked at our piece and it is unglazed cream-colored clay on bottom. It is not marked, though.
I am not sure if there is much in the way of documentation out there. I collected and then sold few pieces of Pfaltzgraff 's art pottery about 5 years ago - that is how I recognise this piece. If you post your piece on the Glass and Pottery board (eBay) and put Pfaltzgraff in the title there are folks there who know their stuff. They might be able to direct you somewhere. Mac
