Ever since Daniel Lees book came out "Artistic Leather of the Arts and Crafts Era" I've been hooked.
The artistry that has gone into so much of the hand-tooled leather is really astounding. I'm not sure on the age of either purse, but the claps have copyrights in the 1930s. The first purse is in excellent condition, the second is missing the strap, but otherwise is in great condition.
I got them for $37 each from an antique dealer. The estimated value based on my research is about $100-200 each, but there's not a huge market for A&C leather at this time.
I enjoy the patterns and they fit well in my home.
What beautiful bags!
I love the tooling and the stitching is great too.
Are the mounts marked sterling?
They look like they are by the same person.
Are they lined?
They look secessionist with an A&C twist. Are they local to you?
Thank you for sharing them!
I found them locally, yes but it's hard to know where they've been through the years. I don't see any sterling marks on either bag. The designs are so beautiful so I'll be keeping an eye out for more. :)
