My best guess is this is from 1930s or 40s. Its definitely hand made, maybe one of a kind. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Ok, Ive solved the mystery. Its a Gilner Brown Bear Cookie Jar, c. 1950(maybe late 40s). Gilner was out of Culver city Ca. They went out of business in 1958 went there plant burned. The key to the mystery was the lot number(405), found a couple other versions of this one, only one very similar as they are hand made.

I have one of these I got for my bridal shower in 1968. They were sold in department stores. They came in 3 different animals a bunny, a bear and an elephant, all brown like the bear.
I never could find any markings on it until I saw that picture I looked mine has some markings but very very light can't really see.

I have one that is brown but today I found a white one. Exactly the same only white. So now I have two. Both by Gilner

I just found this same darling teddy bear cookie jar today at a second hand store and its in great shape, especially considering how old it is. Had no idea who the manufacturing company was, as there were no markings on it. Happy to find out through this website the manufacturer and approximate year it was made. Just love this sweet little treasure! Thanks to all for the information!
