1881 James A. Garfield Copper Coin. On back of coin it describes Pres. Garfield stating he was first left handed President, and how he passed away, and year. (Wondering what this coin is actually worth today)? My curious mind wants to know.

This was minted in 2011 in large quantities. So unfortunately not much value. You might be still able to obtain one of these at a bank.

My coin looks much older than 2011. Again I may have put wrong coin up. The front of coin has his picture on it then below his picture on left side it has 1881 and a date on the right as well. I think its a commerative coin perhaps? The back of coin has a message about him.

Front looks like US mint presidential $1 coin-- should have Statue of Liberty on the back.

It was minted at the end of last year and is worth a $1.

If yours has a different back then it is something different.

The way you are describing the reverse of the coin makes me think it could be one from the Franklin Mint. They have a web site where you can research it. They made them in half a dozen different types of material. However, Presidential Commemorative Medallions were also handed out at gas stations free with a fill up years ago. Needless to say the Franking mint rounds are of more value.

The picture is so bad it blurs when I blow it up. It looks like a mark on his collar above the word "WE" but it is to difficult to make it out. I am 90% sure your other coin has the Franklin Mint mark. Keep them safe until you know for sure.
