These dolls are getting a bit shabby after 90 years of sitting in china cabinets in our family. The base is a wooden peg only 1 1/2 inch long. They are dressed in wool, silks, lace, beads, and other trim. Faces are hand painted on the wood.
Six of these little ladies were brought back from Germany in 1922 by my great grandmother. There are no markings on them. The workmanship is tiny and delicate.
I've contacted an antique doll collector and she's never seen anything like them. They're similar to the clothespin dolls that came out in the '30's.
