New York & Erie RR Co. fixed globe railroad lantern made by tinsmiths H & J Sangster in Buffalo, NY, in the mid-1850s. Globe is beautifully embossed NY&E RR Co. The oil fount removes from the bottom and is nicely hallmarked H & J Sangster, Pat. May, 1851. Unlike New England fixed globe lanterns of this era, which usually do not have a wire globe guard, this one is guarded. The NY&E RR was the first RR to connect the ocean to the Great Lakes, originally built from Piermont, NY, to Dunkirk, NY. The bracelet-style bail is typical of RR lanterns from the time period.

This lantern is one of the nicest examples of early Railroad lighting and appears to be in exceptional shape. Great lantern! Thanks for sharing it.
