General Jonathan Wainwright and Lieutenant General Sir Arthur E Percival of British Army.
I found this photo in my fathers box of pictures. He was a photographer while serving in the South Pacific during WWII. I have had the picture examined at it is an actual photo and not a reprint.
Photo #1 Wainwright sitting at a table with a Japaneses officer signing a document of some sort. In the middle of the picture is Lieutenant General Sir Arthur Percival of the British Army.

General Jonathan Wainwright and American troops, were over whelmed by the Japaneses forces on Corregidor Island. It is here where Wainwright surrendered to Japan during World War II.
Location: Corregidor Island Philippines
Date: 1943, January
Both Wainwright and Percival were together in the Pacific-theater and both were held in a Japaneses prisoner of war camp and released in 1945.
Due to their weakened looking condition, this could be a release photo of Wainwright and Percival from the prisoner of war camp. Or, this could be the initial signing of surrender by the Japaneses in the Pacific theater. The final signing of surrender took place in Baguio Luzon Philippines and was a large affair.
As of now, I know the men are Wainwright and Percival, I am not positive of the event taking place.

Oops, hit the wrong key! Anyway, in many Japanese POW camps no papers were signed, the guards and officials simply abandoned the camps and the POWs had to fend for themselves.

This photo would have been taken on September 5 1945 when Gen. Wainwright received the Japanese surrender in Manila. Your dad was a great witness!
