Somethings…
(2 items)
Recently purchased this at an Estate sale, thinking it was cute and would look great outside with a cute canopy and some plants. Then I found some information on it. It appears to be a GYM DANDY pedal car. I would like to restore it but am unsure what the original REALLY looks like! There are some on eBay but they are all differnt: different canopies, different color pedals and seats. etc. ALSO looking to purchase stickers and parts if anyone can help.
I would love any info you can help me with regarding this!
** Thanks so Much **
A neighborhood friend had one of these growing up in the early 60's on the Westbank of New Orleans, LA. It wasn't very often, but now and then her parents would allow the "Surrey" to travel up and down our street loaded with her siblings and who ever else could fit. Boy oh boy, we sure thought we were hot stuff back then - and would even conduct our own Mardi Gras parades.... with a route of one block. The Surrey had a red and white striped canopy top. I thank you for posting this photo - I hadn't remembered those fun memories until I saw your pictures.
Wow! Talk about a blast from the past.... My brother and I got one of these surreys for Christmas in the early 60's and, just like the previous writer, we were "the" kids on our street. Ours had a red and white striped top but I always remembered our seats to be red... maybe they weren't since I haven't come across any photos online with red seats. We lived in Houston, TX and, on our street, there were 2 big hills which made it very hard to peddle... but it was such a neat present.... In the past, I have tried to find pictures of these to show my husband but had no luck.... until tonight.... so thank you, thank you!
Hi -- Got one of these for Christmas as a kid, wish I had one now! Ours was a Gym Dandy, frame was red, seats and front foot rest were bright yellow, canopy was red-and-white stripes; I sort of remember fringe on the canopy. Looks like yours is missing the seat backs and the canopy.
It looks wonderful.
